The band was invited to record works by the Swiss publishing house Obrasso - all with a taste of Americana and the hit shows of Broadway in particular.
16 tracks from composers and arrangers such as Bruce Fraser, Alan Fernie, Sandy Smith, Goff Richards and Derek Broadbent were featured on music that had a distinctly American feel of the hit shows of Broadway.
The band was enjoying a successful contesting spell under the baton of MD Nicholas Childs, whilst featured soloists included principal cornet player Ian Porthouse, who was return a decade later to become Musical Director of the band.
The aim of this Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) supported project is to provide an on-line multi-media resource that will celebrate and interpret the historical importance of the social, cultural and musical achievements of Tredegar Town Band over a time-line of the past 170 years – from the earliest reported origins in 1849 to date.
