Tredegar Junior Band won the Butlins Youth Championships of Great Britain in 1974 and 1975, and competed at the contest for a third time in 1976.
On each occasion at the Royal Albert Hall in London, competing players were presented with a commemorative certificate for taking part.
These items were donated to the Heritage Lottery Fund project by Hywel Fox, who played cornet in the band on the three performances, and who later went on to become the principal cornet of the senior Tredegar Band for 15 years.
The aim of this Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) supported project is to provide an on-line multi-media resource that will celebrate and interpret the historical importance of the social, cultural and musical achievements of Tredegar Town Band over a time-line of the past 170 years – from the earliest reported origins in 1849 to date.
