In May 2011 the
band was invited by the organisers of the UEFA Champions League Final to
entertain the supporters of Barcelona and Manchester United football clubs on
the concourse outside Wembley Stadium.
Thousands from each side joined in the fun as the band performed various pieces of well known English and Spanish music - including the two unofficial team anthems; 'El Cant del Barca' and ‘Glory, Glory Man
Utd’.
The band was also included in the pre-match SKY television coverage - reaching a potential audience of 500 million people.
The organisers were delighted with the friendly chanting and singing of the crowds as the band played, and as a thank-you gesture, each member of the band was presented with a choice of either a Barcelona or Manchester United official team tie as a personal souvenir.
The match itself ended in victory for Barcelona.
The aim of this Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) supported project is to provide an on-line multi-media resource that will celebrate and interpret the historical importance of the social, cultural and musical achievements of Tredegar Town Band over a time-line of the past 170 years – from the earliest reported origins in 1849 to date.
