Never Forget Your Welsh LP - 1981

Black Mountain Records was set up in the early 1970s by the famed Welsh entertainer Ryan Davies and his manager Mike Evans.

They specialised in Welsh music - including brass bands, with Tredegar recording its first LP, ‘Bound in Brass’ with them in 1977, and a further release entitled, ‘Sing Lennon & McCartney’ in 1981 alongside the Risca Male Voice Choir and the Richard Williams Singers.

This combination release came in 1981 and made a great play on appealing to ‘Welshness’ in all its forms - with the LP adorned with images of a castle, pit-head, a typical south-Wales valley street, choir, and an action shot from an international rugby match. The tracks came from a number of the label’s previous LP releases and featured artists such as the Festival Choir of 1000 Voices, Ryan Davies, Richard Williams Junior Singers, Bryan Jones Big Band and the Risca Male Voice Choir.

Tredegar was featured performing ‘Men of Harlech’, ‘The Long & Winding Road’ and ‘Ar Hyd Y Nos’ from its previous releases.

The aim of this Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) supported project is to provide an on-line multi-media resource that will celebrate and interpret the historical importance of the social, cultural and musical achievements of Tredegar Town Band over a time-line of the past 170 years – from the earliest reported origins in 1849 to date.
