New signing Rhodri Ward joins the band in time for Brass in Concert
Tredegar’s latest signing will make his debut appearance at the forthcoming Brass in Concert Championship at The Sage, Gateshead.
19 year old Rhodri Ward comes in on horn to replace Alyn James who has decided to enjoy a break from playing as he starts his well-deserved retirement from work.
Rhodri is one the fast rising stars of Welsh banding, having played at the successful Parc & Dare Band and having been a member of both the National Youth Band of Wales and the European Youth Band.
He is currently studying philosophy at Cardiff University and is looking forward to joining the horn section of Chris Davies (above) and Hannah Rogers.
“It’s great to be able to join Tredegar,” Rhodri said. “They are an amazing band that is always doing something exciting and interesting. Having the chance to play under Ian Porthouse and link up with Chris and Hannah will push me on as a player too. I’m really looking forward to it - starting at Brass in Concert.”

Meanwhile, solo horn Chris Davies welcomed Rhodri at the band’s first rehearsal back following the second place finish at the Royal Albert Hall.
“It says a great deal about the stature of Tredegar that we have been able to replace one outstanding player in Alyn with another in Rhodri. He’s a great young talent who I’m sure will add an extra dimension to the horn section.”
